Installing the number plate baseplate for the front license plate
Incorrect assembly of the license plate leads to a malfunction of the sensors of the assistance systems .
- Only install the license plate and number plate baseplate according to the predefined dimensions in the repair instructions.
- Attach the license plate and number plate baseplate to the bumper cover without pre-drilling , otherwise there is a risk of damage to the cables underneath.
- Only use number plate baseplates that have been approved for the vehicle type.
The number plate baseplate may be mounted with metal plates only .
The plastic license plate must not be mounted with the number plate baseplate, otherwise the radar sensor will not function properly.
The license plate must be precisely mounted on the number plate baseplate and must not protrude on the underside.
The license-plate carrier must not be installed on the front bumper.
If installed: Installing plastic plates
Injury hazard!
- Do not look into the laser beam.
- Park the vehicle and the special tool 2 407 566 on a flat and even surface.
- Mount the laser on the tripod.
- Switch on laser (Position without automatic level).
- Activate laser horizontally and vertically.

- Apply wide adhesive tape (2) to the bumper cover.
- Apply marks to the wide adhesive tape (2) according to the dimensions (A) up to (D).
The distance from the lower edge of the bumper cover (1) is measured.

Installation of license plate without number plate baseplate
- Screw only in the specified area (5), otherwise cables underneath will be damaged.
Dimension Distance Distance for Swiss version of license plate A 0.8 mm 8 mm - Position and center align the special tool for the vehicle.
- Align horizontal laser beam (1) at the lower edge of the bumper cover and move it horizontally upwards by dimension (A).
- Align vertical laser beam (2) to center of vehicle (for example, on the emblem).
- Align license plate (3) on both laser beams (1) and (2).
- Attachment points in the areas (5) are indicated on the license plate (3) by the marks of the wide adhesive tapes (4).
- Screw down license plate (3) without pre-drilling
in the outermost corners of the specified area (5).
Use only short screws (TS 5x13) for this purpose.

Positioning the number plate
- Position the number plate or number plate baseplate correctly.
- Make sure that the angle of radiation (1) of the ACC sensor is not obstructed.
- Make sure that the angle of radiation (2) of the front camera is not obstructed.
Detect possible fault patterns resulting from incorrect assembly and rectify

- Check the license plate for correct position.

- Remove the license-plate carrier.
- With Check Control messages due to incorrect assembly of the license plate or the number plate baseplate: Position the license plate or the number plate baseplate correctly.
- With US version, Chinese version and Japanese version:
Attach the number plate baseplate (2) with the guides (3) in the bumper cover.
Align the number plate baseplate (2) on the bumper cover.
Screw in and tighten the screws (1) without pre-drilling .

- For European version basic:
Attach the number plate baseplate (2) with the guides (3) in the bumper cover.
Align the number plate baseplate (2) on the bumper cover.
