Adjusting the rear door window glass

Preliminary work

Refer to REMOVING THE REAR OUTER WINDOW RECESS FINISHER STRIP .
Refer to REMOVING REAR DOOR TRIM .

Precondition

Check the preload with the mounted window recess finisher strip.

Open door. Shift door window pane into the uppermost position if necessary.
Insert the special tool 0 496 693 (51 0 370) in the rotary striker of the door lock and manually lock the rotary striker (activation of short stroke function).
Close the door carefully up to the point where the special tool 0 496 693 (51 0 370) magnetically adheres to the striker.
The adherence defines the opening angle for the measurement.

Do not exert any force on the door window glass during the measurement.
The door window glass (1) must abut in area of B-pillar at top at the seal (2).

If necessary, remove the seal plug (1).

Adjust the pretension of the door window pane (retractable).
Release the nut by two turns (1) with the special tool 2 351 398 .
Adjust pretension by turning the special tool 2 351 398 .

Tighten the nut (1) with the special tool 2 351 398 .

TIGHTENING TORQUES SPECIFICATION

Power electric windows to door
Combination hexagon nut, self-locking	tightening torque	9.5 Nm

Check setting, repeat process if necessary.
Install seal plug (1).

Special tool 0 496 693 (51 0 370) must be in the rotary striker of the door lock.
Do not exert any force on the door window glass during the measurement.

Measure the dimension (X) with the special tool 0 496 456 (51 0 342) in the areas (A) and (B) between the trim strip and the outer edge of the door window glass.

B	46 ± 1 mm	measured on arc of door window glass

If necessary, remove the seal plug (1).

If both adjustment values cannot be reached simultaneously, the preload can also be adjusted in the C-pillar area by shifting the adjusting element (1).
In order to avoid an interference noise, the adjusting element must be (1) slightly preloaded.

Remove the special tool 0 496 693 (51 0 370) from the rotary striker of the door lock.

Connect the special tool 2 356 862 to the door window glass in the areas (A) and (B) and hold it down.

Close the rear door and measure the retraction depth.

Area	Dimension (X)
A	3.6 ± 1 mm	Distance from the measuring point to window guide is approx. 30 mm.
B	9 ± 1 mm	Distance from the door window glass to the trim strip

Remove the seal plug (1).
Release the nut (2) by two turns.

Mount the special tool 0 493 731 (51 3 220) on the door window glass (1).
Slacken multi-tooth screw (2) with the special tool 2 360 051 only until the door window glass (1) can just be shifted with little effort.
Adjust the longitudinal direction and the retraction depth.
Nominal dimension A: 3.6 ±1 mm

Nominal dimension B: 9 ± 1 mm

Tighten the multi-tooth screw (1) with the special tool 2 360 051 .

TIGHTENING TORQUES SPECIFICATION

Side window glass to power electric windows
Multipoint screw	tightening torque	12 Nm

Check setting, repeat process if necessary.
Close the door and door window glass.

Measure the distance (X) in the areas (A) and (B) from the B-pillar trim panel (1) to the door window glass (2) with the special tool 0 496 456 (51 0 342) .

A	8.5 ± 1.5 mm	Distance of measuring point approx. 30 mm from top trim strip
B	8.5 ± 1.5 mm	Distance of measuring point approx. 30 mm from bottom trim strip

Slacken multi-tooth screw (1) with the special tool 2 360 051 only until the door window glass can just be shifted with little effort.
Always slacken both multi-tooth screws to avoid tension in the power windows.
Adjust the longitudinal direction of the door window glass (retractable).
Adjust the door window glass nominal dimension 8 ±1.5 mm.

Open the rear door.
Connect the special tool 2 356 862 at the points (A) and (B) to the door window glass.
Close the rear door.

Measure the retraction depth in the areas (A) and (B).

A	5.5 ± 1 mm	Distance of measuring point to the B-pillar trim panel = 30 to 40 mm
B	5.5 ± 1 mm	Distance of measuring point to window guide = 30 to 40 mm

The rear door must open and close without the door window glass taping the roof trim strip (risk of damage).
Mount special tool 2 359 976 on the door window glass (1) leaving access to the multi-tooth screws of the door window glass (1).
Release the adjustment lever (2) by twisting.
Shift the adjustment lever (2) to adjust the retraction depth of the door window glass.
Nominal dimension 4.2 ±1 mm.

Tighten the multipoint head cap screws (1).
