Removing the hydraulic cylinder for the tailgate
Precondition
- Convertible top is open.
Convertible top flap is in open position.
Wind deflector is removed.
Rear seat backrest is folded.
CAUTION:
Folding up of convertible top through loss of pressure in hydraulic cylinders

- When carrying out all repair work, secure soft top and soft top compartment lid with a suitable support tool against collapsing. Ensure soft top is supported in the middle.
Preliminary work
- Refer to REMOVING LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT FLOOR COVERING .
- Refer to REMOVING THE LOADING EDGE TRIM .
- Refer to REMOVING TRUNK COMPARTMENT LIGHT .
- Refer to REMOVING THE UPPER LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT TRIM PANELS .
- Refer to REMOVING RIGHT LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT WHEEL ARCH TRIM PANEL .
Precondition
Trunk lid is open.
Check
- Read out fault memory with the diagnostic system.
Result
The sporadic fault "faulty linear displacement sensor" is entered in the fault memory.
Measure
- Replace the hydraulic cylinder for the tailgate.
Result
No relevant entry in the fault memory.
Measure
- Reuse the hydraulic cylinder for the tailgate.
- Unlock plug connection (1) and disconnect.
- Open and disconnect the hydraulic lines (2).
Disconnecting the hydraulic line
- Protect the working area from escaping hydraulic fluid.
- Slightly pry open the retaining clip (1) with a suitable tool (2) on both shanks.
- Pull apart the plug connection (3) and disconnect the hydraulic line.
- Lift retaining clip (1) slightly and unclip hydraulic cylinder (2).
- Feed out the hydraulic cylinder (2).
- Release the hydraulic lines (1) on the cable bracket (2).
- Release cable grommet (3) and guide out hydraulic lines (1).
