Removing and installing (replacing) M sports steering wheel (330i xDrive Wagon, 328d xDrive Wagon, 330i GT xDrive, 340i GT xDrive)

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 11 other vehicles, including the 2019 BMW 340i GT xDrive, 2019 BMW 330i xDrive, 2019 BMW 330i GT xDrive, 2018 BMW 340i GT xDrive, and 2018 BMW 330i xDrive. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

NOTE: Chassis/wheel alignment is not necessary after the steering wheel has been removed and installed or replaced.

Necessary preliminary work:

Remove AIRBAG UNIT .

CAUTION: While releasing the screw (2), counter support the steering wheel with the help of a second person in order to reduce the torque on the steering column!

Move wheels/sport steering wheel into straight-ahead position.

Disconnect and detach plug connections (1).

Release screw (2) and remove sport steering wheel.

NOTE: Installation note:
Only on vehicles with microencapsulated screw (2): Clean thread in the steering column and replace screw (2) !

Tightening torque 32 33 1AZ .

NOTE: There are clock springs installed with and without a mechanical anti-twist lock.
Clock spring without mechanical anti-twist lock:
(recognizable at the inspection glass for mark of the neutral position)

Do not twist the clock spring.
Check zero position of clock spring on steering column switch cluster.
Zero position is correct only when yellow mark (1) is clearly visible.

NOTE: Installation note:
Before fitting sport steering wheel on steering column, ensure correct cable routing.
Align sport steering wheel by way of marking (1) to steering column marking (2)

Replacement:

Modify SHIFT PADDLES .
Remount both MULTIFUNCTION STEERING WHEEL SWITCHES
Modify DESIGN COVER for sports steering wheel at front and rear
Remount STEERING WHEEL MODULE CONTROL UNIT .
If necessary, modify the lane departure warning engine ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
