Partly remove luggage compartment wheel arch trim panel on left

Loosen the expanding rivet (1).

Press luggage compartment wheel arch trim panel lug (2) on the outer side of the hinge forwards over the stop on the trim (1).
Feed out the luggage compartment wheel arch trim panel (2) under the sealing lip of the seal for the trunk lid.

Removing the emergency release handle for the tailgate (additional work for US version)

Loosen the emergency release handle (1) for the tailgate from the holder.
Detach the Bowden cable (2) and remove the emergency release handle (1) for the tailgate.

Unclip the cover (1).
Unscrew the screw (2) and remove the rear lashing eye (3).

Guide the luggage compartment wheel arch trim panel out of the sealing lip of the tailgate seal.
Release the luggage compartment wheel arch trim panel with the clip (2) and swivel it inward.

Loosen the emergency release handle (1) for the tailgate from the holder.
Detach the Bowden cable (2) and remove the emergency release handle (1) for the tailgate.

Fold out multi-function hook.
Unclip the cover (2) with the special tool 0 490 540 (00 9 323) . To do this, place a corner of the special tool on the bottom left on the cover (2).
Loosen screw (3).

Feed out the luggage compartment wheel arch trim panel from the sealing lip of the tailgate seal.
Release the luggage compartment wheel arch trim panel with the clip (2).

NOTE: TECHNICAL INFORMATION
The number of connectors on the described component may vary depending on the equipment version.
If necessary, unlock and disconnect, or connect and lock, all other connectors.
Swivel the luggage compartment wheel arch trim panel inward.
Unlock plug connection (1) and disconnect.
