Partially remove the luggage compartment wheel arch trim panel on the right

Removing the emergency release handle for the tailgate (additional work for US version) 

• Loosen the emergency release handle (1) for the tailgate from the holder.
• Detach the Bowden cable (2) and remove the emergency release handle (1) for the tailgate.

• Loosen the expanding rivet (1).

• Press luggage compartment wheel arch trim panel lug (2) on the outer side of the hinge forwards over the stop on the trim (1).
• Feed out the luggage compartment wheel arch trim panel (2) under the sealing lip of the seal for the trunk lid.

• Unclip the cover (1).
• Release the screw (2) and remove the rear lashing eye (3).

• Loosen the emergency release handle (1) for the tailgate from the holder.
• Detach the Bowden cable (2) and remove the emergency release handle (1) for the tailgate.

• Fold out multi-function hook.
• Unclip the cover (2) with the special tool 0 490 540 (00 9 323)  . To do this, place a corner of the special tool on the bottom left on the cover (2).
• Loosen screw (3).

• Release expanding rivet (1).
• Feed out the luggage compartment wheel arch trim panel from the sealing lip of the tailgate seal.
• Release the luggage compartment wheel arch trim panel with the clip (2).

  NOTE: TECHNICAL INFORMATION 
  The number of connectors on the described component may vary depending on the equipment version.
  If necessary, unlock and disconnect, or connect and lock, all other connectors.
• Swivel the luggage compartment wheel arch trim panel inward.
• Unlock plug connection (1) and disconnect.
