Remove the speaker cover from the rear door trim panel

Preliminary work
- Refer to REMOVE REAR DOOR TRIM .
- Refer to REMOVE THE DECORATIVE STRIP FROM THE REAR DOOR TRIM PANEL .
NOTE:
Description is for left component only. Procedure on the right side is identical.
- Loosen screws (1) .
Drilling out the spot-welds
Spot-welds or attachment points
Arrow Spot-welds (removal) or attachment points (installation)
- Drill out and/or grind down the marked spot-welds (arrows).
- Slightly compress detentes (1)
with long-nose pliers and disengage downwards.
- Carefully release the upper section of the storage compartment on the door (1)
as shown from the frame until the welding pins release the speaker cover (2)
.
The detent (3) must be released as described in the previous work step.
- As shown, protect the storage compartment on the door (1) from scratches using adhesive tape (2) throughout the entire area of the speaker cover (3) .
- Wrap the storage compartment in the door also with adhesive tape in area (4) to better secure the remaining adhesive tape.
Remove speaker cover
Speaker cover (removal)
- With a support person, pull the door pocket (1) away from the support (2) until the welding pin (4) is completely pulled out of the speaker cover (3) .
- Insert the special tool 0 496 289 (00 9 341)
as shown into the gap between the door pocket and the speaker cover.
This makes removing the speaker cover from the door trim panel easier and prevents damage.
- Very carefully feed out and remove the speaker cover (3)
from the door trim panel.
The speaker cover (3) must be removed very carefully to avoid damaging the door pocket.
