Installing the number plate baseplate for the front license plate (M-Technik)
Incorrect assembly of the license plate leads to a malfunction of the sensors of the assistance systems.
- Only install the license plate and number plate baseplate according to the predefined dimensions in the repair instructions.
- Attach the license plate and number plate baseplate to the bumper cover without pre-drilling , otherwise there is a risk of damage to the cables underneath.
- Only use number plate baseplates that have been approved for the vehicle type.
The number plate baseplate may be mounted with metal plates only .
The plastic license plate must not be mounted with the number plate baseplate, otherwise the radar sensor will not function properly.
The license plate must be precisely mounted on the number plate baseplate and must not protrude on the underside.
The license-plate carrier must not be installed on the front bumper.
If installed: Installing plastic plates
Injury hazard!
- Do not look into the laser beam.
- Park the vehicle and the special tool 2 407 566 on a flat and even surface.
- Mount the laser on the tripod.
- Switch on laser (Position without automatic level).
- Activate laser horizontally and vertically.

- Screwing is only permitted in the specified yellow marked area, otherwise the cables underneath will be damaged.
Dimension Distance A 11 mm B 90 mm C 56 mm D 25 mm E 186 mm F 490 mm - Apply wide adhesive tape (3) horizontally to the positions shown on the left and right of the radiator grille and mark them with dimension (F) .
- Apply wide adhesive tape (2) to the bumper cover.
- Apply marks to the wide adhesive tape (2)
according to the dimensions (A)

The distance from the lower edge (1) of the bumper cover is measured.
Installing a police license plate without license plate baseplate (motorsport engineering)
- Screw only in the specified, yellow marked area, otherwise cables underneath will be damaged.
- Position and center align the special tool 2 407 566 in front of the vehicle.
- Align the horizontal laser beam (1) with the lower edge of the bumper cover.
- Align the vertical laser beam (2) with the center of the vehicle (e.g. BMW nameplate).
- Align the license plate on the laser beam (2) in the middle.
- Align the police license plate on the laser beam (1)
and move down by dimension (A)

Dimension A 20 MM - Observe the attachment points (specified by the markings of the wide adhesive tapes (3) and (4) in the yellow marked area).
- Screw down license plate without pre-drilling
in the outermost corners of the specified yellow marked area.
Use only short screws (TS 5x13) for this purpose.

Positioning the number plate
- Position the number plate or number plate baseplate correctly.
- Make sure that the angle of radiation (1) of the ACC sensor is not obstructed.
- Make sure that the angle of radiation (2) of the front camera is not obstructed.
Detect possible fault patterns resulting from incorrect assembly and rectify

- Check the license plate for correct position.
Result
» The position of the license plate is too low.
The angle of radiation of the ACC sensor (1) is partially covered.
Malfunction of the ACC sensor (1) is possible.

- With Check Control messages due to incorrect assembly of the license plate or the number plate baseplate: Position the license plate or the number plate baseplate correctly.

Attach the number plate baseplate (2) with the guides below in the bumper cover.
Align the number plate baseplate (2) on the bumper cover.
Screw in and tighten the screws (1) without pre-drilling.
