Remove Roof Outer Skin
NOTE:
Perform the steps on the left and right side.
- Release rivets (1) and remove ground strap (2). Remove all 4 ground straps. Replace damaged ground straps.
- Mark severance cut (1) according to schematic diagram and disconnect. Disconnect roof outer skin and the slide/tilt sunroof frame below it.
- Disconnect outer panel with belt sander in the area of stiffening embossing (2).
- Mark severance cut (1) in accordance with dimension and disconnect. Dimension (A) = 135 mm. Disconnect roof outer skin only.CAUTION: Vapors and gases when unsticking bonded connections.
Hazardous to health!- Extract vapors and gases.
- Ensure adequate ventilation.
- Conduct all work in appropriate personal protective equipment only.
NOTE: RISK OF DAMAGE
CFRP body part damage.
The influence of excessive heat may lead to CFRP body part damage.- Avoid the application of heat on CFRP body parts. Do not exceed the maximum permitted temperature of 120°C for a period of 5 minutes.
- Heat the bonded connection (1) with a butane gas flame (2) (approximately 1 - 2 minutes) or a hot air blower (setting 500°C - 600°C, approximately 4 minutes). Guide the flame or hot air blower so that the convertible top bow below it will not be heated.
- Heat the bonded connection (1) until the adhesive is dissolved and remove the front section of the roof outer skin (3).
- Remove sound insulation (4) (source foam strip).
- Attach the aluminum adhesion (1) to the bonded connection (2).
- Attach the aluminum adhesion (1) so that a space (3) to the convertible top bow is created.NOTE: RISK OF DAMAGE

- Release the bonded connection (1) beginning in the area of the cut section (2) in the direction of the arrow one section at a time.
- Heat bonded connection (1) with hot air blower until adhesive is loosened.
Carefully drive in plastic or wooden wedge at heated section. The wedge creates tension between roof outer skin and body.
Attention: Do not exert force to drive in wedge. If the wedge cannot be driven in, continue heating roof outer skin on adhesive flange over a large area (max. 180°C). Carry out operation with a 2nd person helping.
- Heat next section until roof outer skin has detached from body. Reapply plastic wedge. Repeat procedure until roof outer skin is completely detached. Take off roof outer skin.
- Remove sound insulation (3) (source foam strip).

Attention: Do not exert force to drive in the wedge. If you cannot drive the wedge in, continue to heat a large area of the roof outer skin at the adhesive flange (maximum 180°C). Perform the operation with a second person.
- Heat the next section until the roof outer skin has detached from the body.
- Readjust the plastic wedge and repeat the procedure until the roof outer skin is completely detached.
- Take off roof outer skin.
- Remove sound insulation (3) (source foam strip).
