Electromechanical parking brake - emergency release (X6 M)

NOTE: As of 07/2016, the emergency release of the parking brake is discontinued. On vehicles without emergency release, the Bowden cable needs to be cut through if the electromechanical parking brake is faulty!

Attention!

Secure vehicle against rolling away, e.g. using chock!

Emergency release on vehicles as of July 01. 2016

On de-energized vehicles, supply the vehicle battery with current/ignition On and then operate the parking brake button.

EMF without function → Cut through Bowden cable!

Cut through left or right Bowden cable (1)!

Emergency release on vehicles until 08/2016:

Attention!

Secure vehicle against rolling, e.g. with chocks.

Open flap in luggage compartment trim panel on left (1).

Remove first-aid kit and warning triangle.

Feed screwdriver from tool kit into loop (1) of emergency operation.

Forcefully pull screwdriver against mechanical resistance upwards in direction of arrow until a clear increase in force can be felt and the parking brake can be clearly heard to unlock.

NOTE: Start-up after open circuit:

Switch the ignition on.
Press brake button with brake pedal pressed.
The indicator light in the display goes out as soon as the parking brake is disengaged.
