Removing the main bearing cap (collar bearing)
Prerequisite
- The following preliminary work has been carried out:
- Front axle support is lowered.
- If necessary: Front axle differential is removed.
Preliminary work
- Release the oil DRAIN PLUG .
- Remove OIL PAN .
- Remove the oil VACUUM PUMP .
- Remove the OIL DEFLECTOR .
WARNING:
Hot surfaces.

- Perform all work only on components that have cooled down.

- Conduct all work in the vehicle wearing appropriate personal protective equipment only.

The use of metal-cutting tools (e.g., emery cloths) for cleaning surfaces can damage them and lead to leaks and/or engine damage.

The collar bearing is on the center (fourth) main bearing cap.
