- Make sure that there is no charger connected to the jump start terminal in the engine compartment.
- Detach battery ground lead from battery.
- For auxiliary batteries: Detach battery minus cables from all auxiliary batteries.

- When working on the fuel system, make sure the workstation has sufficient ventilation, e.g., by means of extraction.
- Tightly seal off open lines and connections; collect any leakage fuel directly at the point of exit.

On releasing high pressure line, fuel may emerge at high speed.

- Wear suitable personal protective equipment.
- Before performing any installation work, allow cooling system to cool down to less than 40°C.

- Unlock closures (1)
to (5)
and disconnect the coolant lines.
- Unlock closures (1) and (2) .
- Unclip the coolant hose (3)
in the marked area and disconnect it from coolant hoses (4)
and (5)
.
- Unlock the closure (1) and disconnect the coolant hose from the expansion tank.
- Unlock closure (2)
and disconnect the coolant line from the expansion tank.
- Unlock the closure (1)
and disconnect it from the coolant hose (2)
.
- Unlock and disconnect the vacuum line (1)

- Unlock and disconnect the fuel supply line (2) .
Disconnect the positive battery cable from the front power distribution

- Make sure that there is no charger connected to the jump start terminal in the engine compartment.
- Detach battery ground lead from battery.
- For auxiliary batteries: Detach battery minus cables from all auxiliary batteries.
- Remove the cover (1) from the detents (2) .
- Remove the cover (1)
in an upwards direction.
- Loosen nuts (2) .
- Remove the positive battery cable and set it aside.
- Unlock and disconnect the oil return line (1) from the bottom.
- Unlock and disconnect the oil feed line (2) from the bottom.
- Unlock coolant line (3) and detach.
Releasing the engine support brackets on the left and right engine mounts

- Prepare special tool 0 493 751 (11 9 150)
as shown.
- Release screw (1)
on left engine support bracket using special tool 0 493 751 (11 9 150)
from the bottom.
- Release the screw (1) on the engine support bracket on the right from the top.
- Hook the special tool 0 490 561 (11 0 000) to the workshop crane (3) .
- Attach the special tool 0 490 561 (11 0 000) on engine mounting brackets (1) and (2) only.
- Lever out the engine with workshop crane (3) .
