Replacing the rubber mounts for the rear axle final drive suspension at rear (X6 M)

Special tools required: 

CAUTION: In order to ensure that the rear axle transmission rubber mounts are securely seated, observe a waiting period of two hours after pressing in the rubber mounts or before driving the vehicle for the first time. 

Failure to comply with this requirement may cause the rubber mounts to drift in the rear axle support! 

Necessary preliminary work: 

Slacken screws (1)

Tightening torque 26 11 5AZ .

Using a suitable tool (2), secure propeller shaft at center universal joint against twisting.

Remove screws of center mount fully only after opening insert nut.

Position special tool 33 5 200 on workshop jack.

Support rear axle differential with the special tool 33 5 200.

Lash rear axle differential with tensioning strap 33 5 206 to the special tool 33 5 200.

CAUTION: Tensioning strap 33 5 206 must be run through between the output shafts and the lid of rear axle differential!

Release screws (1).

Tightening torque 33 17 1AZ .

Installation note: 

Adhere to the installation sequence at the end of the service information in order to prevent distortion of the rear axle final drive during installation and thereby avoid potential complaints about noise.

Release nut and remove bolt (1).

Tightening torque 33 17 2AZ .

Installation note: 

Adhere to the installation sequence at the end of the service information in order to prevent distortion of the rear axle final drive during installation and thereby avoid potential complaints about noise.

CAUTION: Risk of damage! 
Output shafts must not under any circumstances rest on swinging arms.

Lower rear axle final drive with special tool 33 5 200.

Pull out the rubber mount with the special tools 33 5 153, 33 5 152, 33 5 151, 33 3 103 and 33 3 104.

NOTE: Make sure special tool 33 5 152 contacts rear axle support correctly.

Use the ratchet ring spanner 33 5 105.

CAUTION: Coat the bearing bush in the rear axle support and the new rubber mount with Circo Light (refer to applicable BMW parts catalogue). 

Align rubber mount horizontally by way of elongated hole (1).

Insert the rubber mount (1) into the special tool 33 5 154.

Move the rubber mount (1) with the special tools 33 5 155, 33 5 154, 33 5 156, 33 3 103 and 33 3 104 up to limit position.

NOTE: Make sure special tools 33 5 154 and 33 5 156 contact rear axle support correctly.
Use the ratchet ring spanner 33 5 105.

Assembly sequence: 

  1. Insert the rear axle final drive into the rear axle support using the workshop jack and special tool 33 5 200.
  2. Insert screws (1) (do not tighten).
  3. Insert bolt from rear and replace nut (2) (do not tighten down).
  4. Release tensioning strap, release special tool 33 5 200 and put it away.

  5. Tighten screws (1).

    Tightening torque 33 17 1AZ .

  6. Tighten nut (2).

Tightening torque 33 17 2AZ .
