18 32 050 Removing and installing/replacing catalytic converter (N20 PHEV)

WARNING: High-voltage system - danger to life The following points must be strictly observed prior to starting work:

Disconnect HIGH-VOLTAGE SYSTEM FROM POWER
Observe SAFETY INFORMATION for working with electric vehicles.

WARNING: Risk of burning!
Only perform this repair work after engine has cooled down.
Danger of injury!
Always call on the assistance of a second person to remove the catalytic converter.

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Remove ACOUSTIC COVER
Remove RIGHT FRONT WHEEL .
Remove front UNDERBODY PROTECTION .
Remove rear UNDERBODY PROTECTION .
Remove REINFORCEMENT PLATE .
Remove EXHAUST SYSTEM .

Removal:

Unlock and disconnect plugs (1).

Unlock and disconnect plugs (2).

Feed out cables (1) from the clamps (3) and lay to one side.

Feed out cables (2) from the clamps (3) and lay to one side.

Release screws (1).

Feed out heat shield (2) and remove.

Release screws (1).

Remove holder (2) and lay to one side.

Slacken nut (1).

Unfasten screws (2).

Feed out holder (3) and remove.

Slacken nut (1).

Release bolts (2) on transmission.

Feed out holder (3) for the catalytic converter and remove.

Release screws (1).

Release screws (1).

Unlock and release clamp (2).

Unscrew nut (3).

Feed out cover (4) at the front right and remove.

Unlock and release clamp along the arrows.

Release screws (1).

Feed out cover (2) at the bottom right and remove.

Release clamp (1).

Pull out catalytic converter towards the bottom and remove.

Preparation for installation:

Replace gasket (1).

Parts: Gasket.

Installation:

Feed in and install catalytic converter.

Feed in holder (3) for the catalytic converter and install.

Tighten screws (2) on transmission.

Tightening torque 18 31 5AZ .

Tighten nut (1).

Tightening torque 18 31 6AZ .

Feed in holder (3) and install.

Tighten down screws (2).

Tightening torque 18 31 4AZ .

Tighten nut (1).

Tightening torque 18 31 3AZ .

When installing the V-band clamp make sure that the separation point (1) of the V-band clamp is aligned evenly with the welding spot (2) on the catalytic converter.

This guarantees that the wastegate valve lever (3) does not collide with the V-band clamp (1).

Replace clamp (1).

Part: V-band clamp

Tighten clamp (1).

Tightening torque 18 31 2AZ

Feed in holder (2) and install.

Tighten down screws (1).

Tightening torque 18 31 8AZ .

Feed in and install heat shield (2).

Tighten down screws (1).

Tightening torque 18 31 7AZ .

Feed in and install the lower right cover (2).

Connect and lock clamps along the arrows.

Tighten screw (1).

Tightening torque 18 31 9AZ .

Feed in and install the front right cover (4).

Connect clamp (2) and lock.

Tighten down screws (1).

Tightening torque 18 31 9AZ .

Tighten nut (3).

Tightening torque 18 31 9AZ .

Fasten cable (1) into clamps (3).

Fasten cable (2) into clamps.

Attach and lock connector (1).

Connect connector (2) and lock.

All connectors must audibly engage.

Required reworking:

INSTALL EXHAUST SYSTEM .
Install REINFORCEMENT PLATE .
Install front UNDERBODY PROTECTION .
Install the rear UNDERBODY PROTECTION .
Install FRONT RIGHT WHEEL .
Install ACOUSTIC COVER .
Activate HIGH-VOLTAGE SYSTEM .
