WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 7 other vehicles, including the 2017 BMW X3, 2016 BMW X3, 2015 BMW X3, 2014 BMW X3, and 2013 BMW X3. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
There are 2 fuel level sensors in the fuel tank (depending on optional equipment, SA1AG more fuel). Each fuel level sensor sends a signal indicating the amount of fuel in the tank. A value is obtained by adding the two signals.
Vehicles with FEM: The fuel level sensors are connected to the Rear Electronic Module (REM). The signal is forwarded to the front electronic module (FEM) on the K-CAN2. The FEM transmits the signals to the instrument cluster on the PT-CAN.
Vehicles with BDC: The fuel level sensors are connected to the Body Domain Controller (BDC). The BDC transmits the signals to the instrument cluster on the PT-CAN.
NOTE:
The left-hand fuel level sensor cannot be replaced separately. Observe repair instructions.
PHEV vehicles have only the right-hand fuel level sensor.
PHEV vehicles have only the right-hand fuel level sensor.
