Top and bottom sensor, contact-free tailgate opening

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 7 other vehicles, including the 2017 BMW X3, 2016 BMW X3, 2015 BMW X3, 2014 BMW X3, and 2013 BMW X3. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The two sensors are also attached to the bumper support. The top sensor is flat, the bottom sensor round.

The two sensors are connected to the evaluation electronics and continually measure the capacity. A comparison of the capacity measured over time allows the identification of certain movement patterns.

As a result, a targeted movement of the foot towards the bumper and back can be detected. The top sensor detects the shin, the bottom sensor the toes.

The detection range in the center of the bumper is approx. 60 cm wide.
