Removing steering wheel/sports steering wheel

All work on pyrotechnic parts may be carried out by technically experienced and appropriately trained personnel only.
Replace any damaged part or ones that have been dropped.

WARNING: Airbag unit .
Danger! Immobilization period-threatening injuries!

Before performing any work on the airbag, always disconnect the battery ground lead from the battery.
Airbag unit may only be set down with the cushion (airbag itself) facing upwards.

NOTE: TECHNICAL INFORMATION
The steering wheel and horn plate must be replaced if the airbag unit has been deployed.
Check all steering wheel attachments (such as switches, cover, shift paddles, wiring harness) for damage and replace if necessary!

NOTE: TECHNICAL INFORMATION
Wheel alignment is not necessary after removal, installation or replacement.

Preliminary work

Refer to DISCONNECTING THE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE OF THE SYSTEM BATTERY .
Refer to ADJUSTING THE STEERING COLUMN POSITION .
Refer to REMOVING AIRBAG UNIT OF THE STEERING WHEEL/SPORTS STEERING WHEEL .

NOTE: TECHNICAL INFORMATION
When releasing the screw, have a support person brace the steering wheel in order to reduce torque on the steering column!

Move the steering wheel/sports steering wheels to the straight-ahead position.
Unlock plug connection and disconnect .
Release the screw (1) and remove the steering wheel/sports steering wheel.
