Removing and installing or replacing left or right head airbag (version without slide/tilt sunroof)

Special tools required: 

• 2 230 142

Improper, unauthorized operations may result in serious dangers.

Unauthorized persons are strictly prohibited from performing any operations on this system. 

Incorrect handling can activate airbag and cause injury.

A damaged head airbag must be replaced.

A damaged head airbag exhibits an impaired protective function and in extreme cases loses its protective function altogether.

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

• Disconnect BATTERY NEGATIVE CABLE .
• Remove HEADLINING .
• Follow notes for UNLOCKING AND LOCKING AIRBAG PLUG CONNECTION .
• Remove REAR SEAT BELT COVER .

Lay out protective mats in the relevant working area:

• Instrument panel
• Entrance area
• Passenger compartment

Do not damage!

To unlock the retaining clips, use special tool 2 230 142.

Unlock and remove all retaining clips.

Installation note: 

Mounting clips of folding pack must not be damaged.

Replace faulty retaining clips.

Replace retaining clips after airbag deployment.

Drill out rivet head (1).

Unlock PLUG CONNECTION  (1) for gas generator and disconnect.

Drill out rivet heads in marked area (2).

Remove the gas generator with the folding pack.

Installation note: 

Gas generator is coded against incorrect assembly.
