CAUTION: After completing work, Proceed according to test program, refer to "Service Functions" in DIS Tester. Check transmission oil level. Use only the approved transmission oil. See OPERATING FLUIDS - MANUAL TRANSMISSION article. Check fluid level in hydraulic system. Read out fault memory and clear fault entries. Failure to comply with this requirement will result in serious damage to the transmission.

Disconnect battery, battery positive lead from battery terminal. See INSTRUCTIONS FOR DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING BATTERY .

Remove intake air manifold.

Remove heater bulkhead. See REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING HEATER BULKHEAD .

Remove fan with fan impeller. See COOLING FANS .

Remove engine splash guard.

CAUTION: Vehicles must not be driven without reinforcement plates. Driving without the reinforcement plate may damage the front axle. Screws of reinforcement plate must be tightened to torque and then tightened down with special tool 00 9 120 (angle-of-rotation measuring disk).

Release screws (1). Release screws (2) and remove reinforcement plate (3). See Fig 1 . Upon installation, replace screws (2). Install all screws. Tighten screws (2) to torque and then to angle of rotation. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Tighten down screws (1).
