All AIR Bags & Seat Belt Pretensioners

  1. Before proceeding, follow service precautions. See AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS  . Move vehicle outdoors to a remote area, away from workshop and people. Disconnect and shield negative battery cable. Close all doors and open windows, trunk and sunroof. Ensure air bag module is securely installed on steering wheel. Remove loose objects from front seat.
  2. Disconnect connector from SRS control unit. SRS control unit is located underneath and between rear seats. Attach Igniter (62 1 270) and Cable (62 1 210) to 30-pin connector or 50-pin connector with Cable (62 1 310). Connect igniter to 12-volt battery placed 33 ft. (10 m) from vehicle.
  3. Move away from vehicle, preferably standing in front, as far as igniter leads reach. Press igniter switch to deploy air bags and pretensioners. If Cable (62 1 310, 50-pin connector) is used, only air bags and pretensioner on one side of vehicle will deploy. To deploy remaining air bags and pretensioner, connect cable to free connector and repeat this step.
