00 00... Front And Rear Brake Linings: Checking Lining Thickness With Measuring Gauge. If Linings Are Replaced: Cleaning Brake Shafts, Checking Brake Disc Thickness And Surface, Applying Grease To Wheel Centering On Alloy Wheels. If Rear Linings Are Replaced: Checking Parking Brake Linings
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2006 BMW M3, 2005 BMW M3, 2004 BMW M3, 2003 BMW M3, and 2002 BMW M3. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Check brake lining thicknesses with measuring gauge at front and rear. For subsequent procedure, refer to THICKNESS OF BRAKE LINING for model year 2002-2005, or THICKNESS OF BRAKE LINING for model year 2001.
NOTE:
Issue a separate invoice for replacing the brake linings.
Remove front and (if necessary) rear disc brake linings. For further information on how to proceed, refer to
- Removing and installing front disc brake linings. Refer to DISC PAD for model year 2002-2005, or DISC PAD for mdemodel 2001.
- Removing and installing rear disc brake linings. Refer to DISC PAD for model year 2002-2005, or DISC PAD for model year 2001.
NOTE:
- Clean brake shafts.
- Replace brake linings if they drop below minimum thickness (refer to THICKNESS OF BRAKE LINING for model year 2002-2005, or THICKNESS OF BRAKE LINING for model year 2001).
- Replace brake discs if they drop below minimum thickness (refer to DISC BRAKE SPECIFICATIONS for model year 2002-2005, or DISC BRAKE SPECIFICATIONS for model year 2001) and in event of scoring, heat cracks, lateral runout or thickness difference.
- Apply a thin coat of grease to wheel centering on light alloy wheels, refer to OPERATING FLUIDS - WHEELS AND TIRES .
Additional Tasks When Changing Rear Linings:
Remove rear brake discs. For subsequent procedure, refer to BRAKE DISC for model year 2002-2005 or BRAKE DISC for model year 2001.
NOTE:
- Check parking brake lining for porosity and wear.
- Check expansion lever for ease of movement.
