Removal & Installation (6-Cylinder)

On E46, open cable duct on lower section of microfilter housing and feed out cables. Remove screws and lower section of microfilter housing. See Fig 1. On all models, remove engine cover. See Figure. Mark oxygen sensor connectors for reassembly reference. See Fig 2. Unclip cable from retainer. Disconnect connector. Unclip cable on rear side of engine from cable guide. Remove oxygen sensor from cylinders No. 1-3 and No. 4-6 with Special Tool (11 7 030). Remove oxygen sensor. To install, reverse removal procedure. Coat threads with anti-seize compound and install. Tighten oxygen sensor to 41 ft. lbs. (55 N.m).
