Replacing cylinder head gasket (S55 engine)
Special tools required:
- 11 4 430
- 11 4 470
IMPORTANT:
Aluminium screws/bolts must be replaced each time they are released
.
Aluminium screws/bolts are permitted with and without color coding (blue).
For reliable identification:
Aluminium screws/bolts are not magnetic .
Jointing torque and angle of rotation must be observed without fail (risk of damage) .

Necessary preliminary work:
- Remove CYLINDER HEAD .
- Check cylinder head for DEVIATION FROM FLATNESS .
- Check cylinder head for WATERTIGHTNESS .
Remove the cylinder head gasket.
Insert the special tool 11 4 430 into the feed pipe of the oil pump.
Make sure it is clean, dirt particles must not fall into the oil duct.
Remove remnants of oil and dirt from blind holes (1).
IMPORTANT:
Only work on the sealing surface on the engine block and on the cylinder head with special tool 11 4 470.
Do not use any metal-cutting tools.

Check the fitting sleeves for damage and firm fit.
The cylinder head gasket on the S55 is a beaded metal gasket.
Observe the identification.
Assemble engine.
