Draining and topping up cooling circuit for low temperature cooling system (NT) (S55 engine)
Special tools required:
- 00 2 030
The repair work on the cooling system should only be carried out on an engine that has cooled down!
Attention!
Lifetime coolant filling:
Never reuse used coolant!
When replacing and removing components which rely on the corrosion protection effect of the coolant, it is essential to change the coolant. The cooling system must therefore be drained and refilled.
In the case of other removal work involving the draining of part quantities of coolant, replace these quantities which have been drained with new coolant.
Installation note:
Use only recommended coolant.
Observe the appropriate water/antifreeze mixture ratio.
Protective measures/rules of conduct:
- Wear safety goggles
- Wear protective gloves
- Observe national/country-specific regulations
Attention!
For contamination of the cooling system (e.g. by engine oil), the cooling system must be rinsed with water until all contamination is removed!
Attention!
Risk of skidding due to coolant on the floor.
Danger of injury!
Catch and dispose of drained coolant in drip tray (1) and if necessary special tool 00 2 030 (universal hydraulic lifting equipment).
Recycling:
Observe country-specific waste disposal regulations.
Necessary preliminary work:
- Remove CARBON STRUT .
- Remove STIFFENING PLATE .
- Remove front UNDERBODY PROTECTION .
Draining coolant:
Release sealing cap (1) on expansion tank for low temperature coolant.
Unlock coolant hose (1) on the auxiliary coolant pump and pull off.
Unlock coolant hose (2) on the auxiliary coolant pump and pull off.
Drain, catch and dispose of coolant.
Adding coolant:
Connect coolant hose (1) to the auxiliary coolant pump and lock.
The coolant hose (1) must audibly engage.
Connect coolant hose (2) to the auxiliary coolant pump and lock.
The coolant hose (2) must engage audibly.
Use only recommended coolant.
Observe the appropriate water/antifreeze mixture ratio.
Observe CAPACITIES .
Observe bleeding instructions without fail.
FILL AND BLEED COOLING CIRCUIT FOR LOW TEMPERATURE WITH VACUUM FILLING UNIT .
Visual inspection of cooling system for tightness.
Required follow-up work:
- Install STIFFENING PLATE .
- Install UNDERBODY PROTECTION .
- Install CARBON STRUT .
