Removing and installing/replacing left or right deformation element for front bumper panel (M4 Coupe, M4 Convertible)

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Remove SUPPORT FOR FRONT BUMPER PANEL
Remove the SUPPORT for the front bottom bumper panel.
Remove the CARBON STRUT .

Removal:

Release expanding rivet (1).

Feed out the air duct (2) in area (3) and remove.

Release screw (1).

Feed out the radiator (2) from the holder (3) and let it hang.

Release screws (1 and 2).

NOTE: Carry out work on the right side in the same way as for the left side illustrated here.

Release screws (1).

Remove support (2).

Unfasten plug connection (1) and disconnect.

Release the air duct (2) from the air duct (3).

Release screws (1).

Release the air duct (2) on the holder (3).

Completely feed out the air duct (2) towards the front.

If applicable, release the plug connection and cable clip from the deformation element (1).

Unfasten screws (2).

Release screw (3).

Feed out the deformation element (1).

Release screws (1) on both sides and remove bracket (2).

Release screws (3) and remove lower deformation element.

When replacing lower deformation element:

Release blind rivet from damper (4).

Installation:

Install holder (2) and tighten down screws (1) on both sides.

Tightening torque 51 11 2AZ .

Fasten lower deformation element with screws (3).

Tightening torque 51 11 5AZ .

When replacing lower deformation element:

Fasten damper (4) with a blind rivet.

Insert deformation element (1).

Tighten down screws (2).

Tightening torque 51 11 3AZ .

Tighten screw (3).

Tightening torque 51 11 6AZ .

If applicable, fasten the plug connection and cable clip to the deformation element (1).

Completely feed in the air duct (2).

Fasten the air duct (2) on the holder (3).

Tighten down screws (1).

M4 GTS only, when replacing the air duct/bracing strut:

Rework the AIR DUCT .

Install the FRONT SPLITTER BRACKET .

Connect the connector (1).

Insert the air duct (2) on the air duct (3).

NOTE: Make sure the air duct (2) is correctly fitted on the air duct (3).

Mount the support (2).

Tighten down screws (1).

Tighten down screws (1 and 2).

Required follow-up work:

Install front SUPPORT FOR BUMPER PANEL .
Install FRONT BOTTOM SUPPORT FOR BUMPER PANEL .
Install CARBON STRUT .
