Replacing Rear Left Outer Wheel Arch Section With Reinforcement (Rear Side Panel Removed) (M4 Coupe)

Follow procedure for REPAIR STAGE 3 .

Read contents of BODY, GENERAL .

For stripping and rigging operations, refer to texts on KSD CD (job number 41 14 502).

Spot-weld bonding is used on this vehicle. Observe specific PROCEDURE .

Use only approved Spot-Welding Apparatus for repairs; See WORKSHOP EQUIPMENT (BMW AND MINI VEHICLES) .

Following new body parts are required (see applicable BMW Parts Catalog):

• (1) Side section, inner
• (2) C-pillar reinforcement
• Shaped part B-pillar, outer

Removal 

Mark severance cut (1) through hole (2) and disconnect.

Open welded connections in area (3).

Remove reinforcement section on C pillar.

Remove cavity sealing (1).

Open welded connections in areas (2).

Mark severance cut (1) in accordance with dimension and cut.

Dimension a = approx. 20 mm from radius.

Open welded connections in area (2).

Remove part section of outer wheel arch section.

New part preparation 

Mark severance cut on new wheel arch part to match severance cut on vehicle + 20 mm material allowance, then make the cut.

Prepare REINFORCEMENT PLATE  at severance cut for reinforcement on C-pillar.

Adjust outer wheel arch section in combination with side wall to fit and secure.

Installation 

Install and weld new parts.

Apply sealant to new CAVITY SEALING . Install cavity sealing.
