Removing and installing/replacing both front carbon ceramic brake discs (CSiC)
Special tools required:

Attention!
If required, washers for increasing the coefficient of friction (1) can be installed in some vehicles between wheel hub/brake disc and between brake disc/wheel rim (see the applicable BMW parts catalogue).
These washers must be reinstalled or replaced in case of damage!
Center disc for increasing the coefficient of friction (1) using special tool 83 30 2 459 458 (3 centering pins) on wheel hub and install!
Attention!
It is imperative that you follow the GENERAL INFORMATION on handling the carbon ceramic
brake (CSiC)!
Observe the TOLERANCE SAMPLE CATALOGUE to evaluate the visual quality of carbon ceramic brake discs in new condition.
Observe the TOLERANCE SAMPLE CATALOGUE to evaluate the visual quality of carbon ceramic brake discs in used condition!
After completing the repair observe the notes on BEDDING-IN NEW CARBON CERAMIC BRAKE DISCS/BRAKE PADS .
Necessary preliminary work:
- Remove WHEELS
.NOTE:
Wheels should only be removed using a proper wheel fitting lever.
Failure to comply with this stipulation may give rise to damage to the brake disc or brake caliper!
- Remove and clean/replace front BRAKE PADS .
Replacement of a single brake disc (front axle/rear axle) is approved for repair operations.
We recommend replacing both brake discs on an axle (especially on the front axle) during repairs owing to the danger that the brakes will otherwise pull to one side during the running-in phase and the associated risk that a repeat repair will be necessary.
At the same time, it is not absolutely imperative from the technical perspective. The decision ultimately should be made on a case-by-case basis, according to the wear and contact pattern of the brake pads.
Attention!
To release brake disc: Do not strike the friction ring (2) with a hammer or something similar.
Slacken both screws (1).
If required, remove the complete brake caliper and hang it on the spring strut.
Observe the following procedure in order to disassemble the CSIC brake disc without damage:
Screw in two M8 screws uniformly into the internal thread (1) on the brake disc chamber and push the brake disc off the wheel hub.
Attention!
Screw in the screws evenly in order to avoid deforming the brake disc chamber during disassembly.
Installation note:
Roughness on the contact surface can lead to deformation of the brake disc (2).
Clean contact surface of brake disc at wheel hub thoroughly and remove traces of corrosion.
Replace screws (1).
Tightening torque 34 11 1AZ .
