Removing and installing/replacing left or right rear side window (M4 Coupe)

Attention! 

• Follow general instructions on window bonding:

  The vehicle can be towed or driven without a windshield, rear window and side window.

  When carrying out disassembly/installation work and during the hardening time, the vehicle must be standing on its wheels on a level surface.

  The windshield, rear window and side windows are glued to the body. This bonding will increase the torsional rigidity of the vehicle. To obtain perfect bonding, comply with the installation procedure described in the following.

• Follow GENERAL PROCEDURE  for dismantling/installing bonded window glass.

Removal is performed with "ROLL OUT 2000"  or "SPIDER" .

The following new PARTS/MATERIALS  are required:

Side window (when replacing)	1
Small repair kit	1
Cutting wire for Roll Out 2000	5 m
Velero fastener (Dual Lock tape)	6

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

• Remove SIDE TRIM PANEL .
• Remove TRIM PANEL FOR DOOR POST .
• Remove TRIM PANEL FOR ROOF PILLAR AT REAR  (C-pillar).
• Remove TRIM STRIP ON GUTTER STRIP REAR .

Attention! 

Tape off body in area of piercing points (1) with fabric adhesive tape (risk of damage).

Cut the side window out.

Installation of Dual Lock tapes: 

Remove rest of dual-lock tapes (1) and clean bonding surface.

Apply new Dual Lock tape (1) between the marks on the body area.

INSTALL TRIM STRIP ON REAR GUTTER STRIP  to side window.

a  [mm] = Position adhesive bead	1 + 1
b  [mm] = Width adhesive bead	7 ± 1
h  [mm] = Height adhesive bead	12 - 2

For reusing the side window:

• Remove rest of dual-lock tapes (2). Clean bonding surface and stick on new dual-lock tapes (2).

Apply bead joint in area (1).

Follow the adhesive bead around the circumference of the PVC coating.

Perform the following repair work with a second person to give assistance.

Clip side window (1) at first with clip (2) into fixture (3).

Then place side window (1) at side wall.

Align side window (1) to side wall and engage in Dual Lock tapes.

Fix side window (1) in place using yellow plastic adhesive tapes (sourcing reference BMW Parts Department).

Replacement: 

Mount new TRIM ONTO FIXED SIDE WINDOW GLASS  at rear.
