Remove prop shaft

- Secure component against falling off the jack.

- Do not disassemble the three-hole flange, flexible disc and prop shaft. The three-hole flange to the rear axle differential is balanced with the flexible disc and prop shaft.
- Loosen the recessed nut against the direction of travel in clockwise direction. The prop shaft must be loosened on the recessed nut only and exclusively in the direction of rotation otherwise the anti-twist lock of the bi-hexagonal flange nut is damaged.
- In the event of a damaged anti-twist lock on the bi-hexagonal flange nut: Replace the rear axle differential.

The following step(s) must be performed if the listed component(s) is/are installed.
- Loosen nuts (1) .
- Loosen the lock (2) .
- Guide out and remove intake manifold (3) .
NOTE:
The following step(s) must be performed if the listed component(s) is/are installed.
- Loosen the holder (1) .
- Loosen screw (2) .
- Unlock and loosen connector (3) .
- Unfasten clamp (4) .
- Pull out and remove the intake silencer housing (5) from the rubber mounts towards the top.
- Install special tool 2 407 851 between the front and rear prop shaft.
- Ensure that the arrows on special tool 2 407 851
point forward in the driving direction.
- It is imperative that you support the prop shaft (1)
using a standard jack.
- Hold down prop shaft (1)
on the central mount using special tools 0 495 554 (33 5 070)
and 0 496 959 (33 0 080)
.
- Loosen screws (1) .
- Remove screws (arrows).
- Guide out the prop shaft in the arrow direction and keep it aside.
NOTE:
RISK OF DAMAGE
Damage to the transfer box .
Non-observance of the removal and installation guidelines may cause severe damage to the transfer box .

- Do not use the double hexagon head flange nut as counter support.
- Hold down recessed nut (2)
on the transfer box using special tools 0 495 554 (33 5 070)
and 0 496 959 (33 0 080)
.
Recessed nut (2) on the transfer box must not be used for releasing the prop shaft.
- Release the prop shaft on the central mount in the arrow direction using special tools 0 495 554 (33 5 070) and 0 496 959 (33 0 080) .
