31 10 001 Completely removing and installing front axle with engine and transmission (N63) (X6 xDrive 50i)
Attention!
Engine damage due to lack of engine oil.
Lack of engine oil after the oil circuit components are repaired or the engine is replaced may cause damage to the engine.
- Do not start the engine after the oil circuit components are repaired or the engine is replaced without following the repair notes.
- The REPAIR NOTES AFTER REPAIRS ON COMPONENTS IN THE OIL CIRCUIT AND AFTER REPLACING THE ENGINE must be followed in all cases.
Necessary preliminary work:
- Disconnecting the battery earth lead
- Move engine compartment lid into working position
- Drawing off the air conditioning
- Draining coolant
- Release the refrigerant line at the capacitor
- Remove both tension struts from spring strut dome
- Remove fan cowl.
- Remove both front wheels
- Remove reinforcement plate
- Removing rear underbody protection
- Remove propeller shaft
- Remove the steering assembly cover at the top/bottom, left and right
- Release the oil lines at the engine oil cooler
- Release steering spindle on steering gear
- Release and tie up the brake caliper, left and right
- Disconnect the plug connection at the wheel speed sensor, left and right
- Remove power distribution box
- Remove the bracket for the Power Distribution Module
- Removing the DME control unit
- Releasing coolant hoses from radiator
- Disconnect the tank ventilation line at the separation point
- Disconnect the line at the tank vent valve
- Remove coolant expansion tank
- Release the coolant line at the heat exchanger for heating system
- Removing the auxiliary coolant pump
- Release the vacuum hose for the brake servo
- Release the oil reservoir for the hydraulic steering.
Attention!
Coordinate determination always begins at the top.
Position engine assembly on table top A.
Position transmission on table top B.
Table top is adjustable in the longitudinal direction (see arrow).
Structure of table lift.
Position the mounting element with the fixture (40) on tabletop B for the transmission cross member at coordinates 2/2 and 2/7.
Position the mounting element with the fixture (80) on tabletop B under the transmission at coordinates 6/4.
Position the mounting element with the fixture (60) on tabletop A for the front axle support at coordinates 2/2; 6/2, 2/7 and 6/7.
Position the fixture (10) on tabletop A for the swivel bearings at coordinates 3/1 and 4/8.
Attention!
Removal weight approx. 150 kg to 300 kg.
Check payload of vehicle, empty if necessary.
Load front footwell with sandbags if necessary, approx. 100 kg.
Note safety instructions of TABLE LIFT .
Position the mounting elements with the fixtures (60) on the left and right at the front axle support (1).
Secure the fixture for the swivel bearing (1) at the brake disc with the wheel bolts (2).
Secure adjusting screw (3).
Position the mounting elements with the fixture (80) at the automatic transmission.
Position the mounting elements with the fixtures (40) at the transmission cross member (1).
- Disassemble the front axle support
- Detach transmission cross member
- Release both swivel bearing at the top wishbone
- Release both front spring struts at the bottom wishbone
- Slowly lower the lifting table and see that all components have freedom of movement
