Drain and top up engine oil (S63T2) (X6 M)

WARNING: Risk of scalding!
When carrying out repair work on the vehicle always wear oil- and heat-resistant protective gloves incl. forearm protection, face guard and protective apron.

CAUTION: Perform engine oil service only when engine is at normal operating temperature (70°C engine oil temperature). Observe the exact engine oil filling capacity. Use only BMW-approved fluids. See the Fluid Capacities tab for the selected vehicle. Overfilling the engine with engine oil will result in
engine damage .

Recycling:

Catch and dispose of drained engine oil in a suitable collecting vessel.

Observe country-specific waste disposal regulations.

Removal:

Open sealing cap (1).

Remove oil drain plug (1).

Drain engine oil.

Loosen oil filter lid with special tool 11 9 240.

Release oil filter element (1) in direction of arrow from oil filter cover (2).

Installation:

Replace O-ring and coat with engine oil.

Parts: O-ring.

Check identification (1) and mount the oil filter element in correct position.

Slide oil filter element (2) into oil filter cover (3).

NOTE: Oil filter element (2) must snap audibly into place.

Tighten oil filter lid with special tool 11 9 240.

Tightening torque: 11 42 1AZ .

Replace sealing ring (2).

Parts: Sealing ring (2).

Position oil drain plug (1) of oil sump on the oil sump and tighten.

Tightening torque: 11 13 1AZ .

Pour in ENGINE OIL .

Close sealing cap (1).

Checking oil level:

Park vehicle on a horizontal surface
Allow engine to run at operating temperature for three minutes with increased engine speed (approx. 1100 rpm)
Read off oil level in instrument cluster or on control display
Top up engine oil if necessary
