24 00 112 Removing and installing the automatic transmission (GA8P75H) (N20 PHEV)
Special tools required:
If there are signs of corrosion, the rust must be removed and the threads must be cleaned before removal.
Replace rusted, damaged screws.
Failure to comply with this instruction will result in serious damage to the engine block and transmission.
High-voltage system - risk of serious injury or death.
The following points must be strictly observed prior to starting work:
- De-energize the HIGH-VOLTAGE SYSTEM .
- Observe SAFETY INFORMATION for handling hybrid cars.
- Avoid contact with transmission oil and inhalation of transmission oil vapors under all circumstances.
- Wear protective gloves.
- Ensure adequate ventilation
Adjusting the rotor position sensor is required.
Check TRANSMISSION OIL LEVEL .
Use only approved TRANSMISSION OIL .
Failure to comply with this requirement will result in serious damage to the automatic transmission!
Necessary preliminary work:
- De-energize the HIGH-VOLTAGE SYSTEM .
- Clamp off BATTERY .
- Remove EXHAUST SYSTEM .
- Release MONITORING SENSOR on catalytic converter.
- Partially remove PROPELLER SHAFT .
- Disconnect propeller shaft at transmission.
- Release center mount.
- Tie up the propeller shaft to the vehicle underbody.NOTE: Bending the propeller shaft by an excessive angle can cause premature damage to the joint/propeller shaft! Support engine with lifter when removing transmission.
- Drain COOLANT .
- Remove heat shields.
Removal:
Release screws (1).
Remove heat shield (2).
Release screws (1).
Release high-voltage cable (2) with holder from transmission.
Release screws (1) from high-voltage connector.
Disconnect high-voltage connector (2) from the EME.
Release screws (1).
Release holder (2) with high-voltage cable from transmission cross member.
Release screws (1) from high-voltage connector (2).
Disconnect high-voltage connector (2) from the transmission.
Release screws (1).
Release the holder (2) from the transmission.
Remove front propeller shaft.
Push high-voltage cable (1) with the bracket to the right.
Feed out the cable and remove.
Unscrew nuts (1).
Release rubber mount from holder (2).
Release screws (1).
Remove holder (2).
Undo the transmission bolts (1).
Unscrew nuts (2).
Remove bracket (3).
Unlock and disconnect the connector (1).
Release cable from transmission.
Release screw (1).
Release coolant lines (2) from transmission.
Keep to installation sequence.
Unlock and disconnect temperature sensor connector (1).
Release screw (1).
Disconnect hydraulic lines (2) to transmission oil cooler.
Keep to installation sequence.
Disconnect cable (3) from transmission.
Release screw (1).
Detach cable clip (2) from gearbox.
- Unlock and disconnect connector (1) by turning.
- Do not touch pins.
- Release cable from brackets.
Operations are described in NOTES ON MECHATRONICS .
Insert special tool 24 2 390 in sealing cup (1).
Release Torx screw (1).
Slacken nut (1).
Remove ground strap (2).
Supporting transmission:
Support transmission with special tools 23 4 050, 2 219 012 .
Secure transmission to mounting with tensioning strap (1).
Repair work is are described in GEARBOX HOLDER .
After completion of work, check transmission fluid level.
Loosen screws.
Lower transmission.
Unlock and disconnect rotor position sensor connector (1).
Release and detach connector (1) from transfer box control unit.
Remove bolt (2) and ground cable from transfer box.
Undo the Torx screws.
Disconnect transmission.
Installation:
Check that fitting sleeves (1) are correctly seated.
Replace damaged fitting sleeves.
Transmission flange-mount.
Insert screws and tighten.
Install the holder (3).
Insert Torx screws (1) and tighten.
Insert nuts (2) and tighten.
Insert Torx screw (1) and tighten.
Attach holder (2).
Insert screws (1) and tighten.
Observe screw fastening sequence without fail.
Tightening torque 24 00 1AZ .
Connect and lock rotor position sensor connector (1).
Install cable clips (2).
Insert screw (1) and tighten.
Clip cable (3) to transmission.
Install hydraulic lines (2).
Insert screw (1) and tighten.
Parts: Replace sealing rings.
Tightening torque 17 22 1AZ .
Remove special tool 24 2 390 .
Insert plug connector (1) and lock by turning.
Clip cable to the transmission.
Connect and lock the connector (1).
Install holder (2).
Insert screws (1) and tighten.
Attach rubber mount (2) on the holder.
Position nut (1) and tighten.
Tightening torque 18 31 3AZ .
Lock connector (1).
Install ground strap.
Fit nut (2) and tighten.
Tightening torque 24 11 7AZ .
Insert screws and tighten.
Tightening torque 22 32 11AZ .
Install ground strap (2).
Position nut (1) and tighten.
Tightening torque 24 11 7AZ .
Remove special tool 23 4 050, 2 219 012 .
Install high-voltage cable.
Place high-voltage cable (1) with the bracket to the left.
Connect high-voltage connector (2) to the transmission.
Insert screws (1) and tighten.
Tightening torque 12 36 1AZ .
Connect high-voltage connector (2) to the EME.
Insert screws (1) and tighten.
Tightening torque 12 36 1AZ .
Install holder (2) with the high-voltage cable to the transmission cross-member.
Insert screws (1) and tighten.
Tightening torque 12 36 2AZ .
Connect high-voltage cable (2) with bracket to transmission.
Insert screws (1) and tighten.
Tightening torque 12 36 2AZ .
Install heat shield (2).
Insert screws (1) and tighten.
Tightening torque 24 11 6AZ .
Connect and lock temperature sensor connector (1).
Install coolant lines (2).
Insert screw (1) and tighten.
Parts: Replace sealing rings.
Tightening torque 17 22 6AZ .
Required follow-up work:
Bleed the cooling circuit.
Connect BMW diagnosis system:

- EME
- Motor position sensor adjustment
