11 28 071 Removing and installing/replace toothed belt for starter motor (PHEV)

WARNING: High-voltage system - danger to life 
IMPORTANT: In the event of a leak at the pressure pipe, there is a risk of damage  to the turbocharger.

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

Removal: 

Using a suitable tool (2), unclip the cover (1) from tensioning pulley.

Release screw (1).

Slacken belt.

NOTE: Mark direction of rotation of the toothed belt.

Turn tensioning pulley (1) with hexagon socket wrench till limit position (2) in direction of arrow.

Remove toothed belt from starter motor.

Installation: 

Install toothed belt, note direction of rotation.

Turn tensioning pulley in direction of arrow until needle (1) is in the middle of the adjustment window (2) of the base plate (3).

NOTE: If the needle is found inside the adjustment window on the base plate when the engine is switched off, the correct tension is adjusted.

During engine start, the needle position can also be found outside the adjustment window due to changing load in the toothed belt starter system. This is normal in this situation and does not need any further setting of the toothed belt tension.

Tighten screw (1).

Tightening torque: 11 28 1AZ .

Mount protective cap (1) on tensioning pulley.
