51 44 013 Removing and installing (replacing) headlining (with panorama glass roof)

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

• Open front glass slide/tilt sunroof.
• Move both front seats fully forwards.
• Remove SUN VISORS AND COUNTER SUPPORTS  on left/right.
• Remove ROOF SWITCH CLUSTER .
• Remove VANITY MIRROR LIGHTS .
• Remove microphones. See REMOVING MICROPHONE ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE and REMOVING MICROPHONE ON THE PASSENGER'S SIDE .
• Remove FRONT TRIM PANELS FOR ROOF PILLAR  (A-pillar) left/right.
• Remove all grab handles. See REMOVING REAR LEFT/RIGHT GRAB HANDLE  and REMOVING FRONT GRAB HANDLE .
• Remove TRIM PANELS FOR UPPER DOOR POST  (B-pillar) left/right.
• Remove REAR TRIM PANELS FOR ROOF PILLAR  (C-pillar) left/right.
• Remove REAR TRIM PANELS FOR ROOF PILLAR  (D-pillar) left/right.

Complete removal only: 

• Remove LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT WHEEL ARCH PANEL (DRIVER'S SIDE) .

Release screws (1).

Version with combination roller blind (load area net): 

Fold back trim (1) for load area net mounting (2).

Undo screws (3) and remove partition net mounting (2).

Installation note: 

Take note of position details on back of partition net mounting (2).

• Fold forward both rear seat backrests
• Move both front seat backrests as far back as possible
• Release edge protection of the front door and rear door in the roof area
• Pull headliner slightly downwards in area of roof light and disconnect associated electrical connector.

The following tasks must be carried out with a second person assisting:

Support headlining (3) at front/back.

Release screws (1).

Unfasten cable retainers if necessary.

Unclip clip (2).

Installation note: 

Replace clip (2).

Unclip headlining (1) at clips (2) in sunroof frame area in downward direction.

Installation note: 

Renew faulty clips (2) if necessary.

Carefully tilt headlining (1) and feed out towards rear.

Replacement: 

Version with combination roller blind (load area net): 

Cut out premarked cutout areas (1) for left/right dividing net mounts with a scalpel.

Installation note: 

Installation sequence:

1. Secure headlining with edge protection.
2. Attach headliner to clips (sunroof opening) at front.
3. Snap headlining at rear into clip.
4. Secure expanding rivets to headlining at front.
5. Screw down grab handles at front on left/right.
6. Screw down grab handles at rear on left/right.
7. Screw down sun visors and counter supports.
8. Reassemble the vehicle.
