Bleeding cooling system for charge air cooler (N63 B40/B44 O 1, S63 B44 T 2) (X5 M)
Special tools required:
- 00 2 030
WARNING:
Risk of scalding! Open sealing cap only after engine has cooled down.
IMPORTANT:
The cooling system for the charge air cooler has a separate cooling circuit. Coolant is added at charge air cooler expansion tank. Electric coolant pump!
Follow NOTES FOR CARRYING OUT REPAIR WORK ON THE COOLING SYSTEM !

IMPORTANT:
Lifetime coolant filling:
Never reuse used coolant!
When replacing and removing components which rely on the corrosion protection effect of the coolant, it is essential to change the coolant. The cooling system must therefore be drained and refilled.
In the case of other removal work involving the draining of part quantities of coolant, replace these quantities which have been drained with new coolant.

IMPORTANT:
Risk of skidding due to coolant on the floor.
Danger of injury!
Catch and dispose of drained coolant in drip tray (1) and if necessary special tool 00 2 030 (universal hydraulic lifting equipment).
Recycling:
Observe country-specific waste disposal regulations.
IMPORTANT:
The following bleeding procedure is necessary when a part is replaced in the cooling system or when the cooling system is refilled.
Top up coolant.
Cooling system may be exclusively filled only with an VACUUM FILLER DEVICE .
Use only BMW approved coolant. See the Fluid Capacities tab for the selected vehicle.
Observe mixture ratio.
Venting cooling system:
NOTE:
Leave the coolant expansion tank sealing cap open during the bleeding procedure.
- Top coolant up to the upper edge of the expansion tank. Coolant level may not drop further! No drop in coolant for approx. 1 minute.
- Connect battery charger.
- Switch the ignition on.
- Set heating to maximum temperature. Press Automatic button. Then set the blower to the lowest speed.
- Press accelerator pedal for 15 seconds to floor. Engine must not be started.
- The bleeding procedure is started when the accelerator pedal is pressed and takes approx. 12 minutes.
- Refill expansion tank up to top edge immediately after drawing off until empty.
- Adjust expansion tank to maximum level at end of bleeding procedure.
- Check cooling system for leaks.
- Close expansion tank.
- If the cooling system bleeding has to be carried out again, allow DME to drop completely (let the ignition key be removed for approx. 3 min), then repeat from point 5.
