Removing and installing/replacing left or right rear side window (X5 M)

Attention! 

• Follow notes on WINDOW BONDING , MATERIALS FOR BONDING WINDOW  and TOUCHING UP PAINTWORK DAMAGE .
• GENERAL PROCEDURE  for dismantling/installing bonded window glass.

For reusing the side window:

Do not damage wiring of TV aerial.

Removal is carried out using the SPIDER .

The following new parts/CONSUMABLES  are required (sourcing reference applicable BMW Parts Catalogue).

Velcro fastener (Dual Lock tape)	6

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

• Remove CAPPING .

Depending on version 

• Secure CONNECTOR AND CABLE FOR TV AERIAL to side window with adhesive tape, (risk of damage).
• Remove SIDE WINDOW TRIM STRIP .

Attention! 

Tape off body in area of piercing point with fabric adhesive tape (risk of damage).

Do not damage PVC coating when piercing the adhesive bead.

Slide nylon string from SPIDER  in area (1) from inside through adhesive bead.

Left side window 

Place nylon string clockwise around side window seen from outside.

Adhesive bead is cut through clockwise seen from outside.

Right side window: 

Place nylon string counter-clockwise around side window seen from outside.

Adhesive bead is cut through counter-clockwise seen from outside.

Secure side window against falling out.

During cutting, the Dual Lock tapes (1) and centering pins (2) are cut through.

Increased effort must be reckoned with at these points.

Installation of Dual Lock tapes: 

Remove rest of dual-lock tapes (1) and clean bonding surface.

Apply new Dual Lock tape (1) between the marks on the body area.

Check that the position of the Dual Lock tape on the side window corresponds with the Dual Lock tape on the body.

a  [mm] = Position adhesive bead	2±1
b  [mm] = Width adhesive bead	8±1
h  [mm] = Height adhesive bead	15 ±1

For reusing the side window: 

• Remove damaged Dual Lock tapes (2), clean bonding surface and stick on new Dual Lock tapes (2)

  Follow the adhesive bead around the circumference of the PVC coating.

  Apply bead joint in area (1).

New side window: 

Position side window at bottom and insert centering pins (2) in body.

Fold in side window and engage in Dual Lock tapes.

Reuse: 

Position side window at bottom and align to body (D-pillar).

Fold in side window and engage in Dual Lock tapes.

Fix side window in position with yellow plastic adhesive tape.
