61 21 010 Remove and install or replace battery

WARNING: Observe SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS for handling vehicle battery.

To ensure the correct safety and convenience functions, install only the original battery (battery size and type) stored in the vehicle order. Observe notes on BATTERY REPLACEMENT .

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Remove POWER DISTRIBUTION BOX

Release screws (1).

Tightening torque 61 21 5AZ .

Remove retaining bracket (2) from battery (3).

Loosen nut (1).

Tightening torque 61 21 1AZ

IMPORTANT: Do not under any circumstances use force to pull or lever off safety battery terminal.

Pull off safety battery terminal (2) towards top, lay to one side and secure.

Remove vent line (3).

NOTE:

Always route ventilation line (1) at a downhill gradient outwards to prevent any siphoned action.

Release screw (1) and remove side holder (2).

Tightening torque 61 21 5AZ .

Remove battery.

Installation note:

Ensure correct fit of the battery in the battery fixture.

Extra in versions starting from 07/2013:

Release screw (1) and remove rear holder.

Tightening torque 61 21 5AZ

Remove battery.

Replacement:

Vehicles with intelligent battery sensor (IBS)
Register BATTERY REPLACEMENT

NOTE: If Check Control message is present:

Delete fault memory
