61 31 342 Removing and installing/replacing the gear selector switch (GWS)

Special tools required:

61 0 313

IMPORTANT: Read and comply with notes on protection against electrostatic damage (ESD PROTECTION) .

Necessary preliminary work:

Remove GEAR SELECTOR SWITCH COVER .

Removal:

Release all screws (1).

Take off gear selector switch (2) from center console (3).

Unlock and disconnect corresponding connector.

Installation:

Installation note:

Align gear selector switch (2) centrally.

Connect corresponding connector.

Join gear selector switch (2) to center console (3).

Tighten all screws (1).

Tightening torque 61 31 1AZ .

Replacement:

NOTE: A new connector with deviating pin assignment will be installed in the following vehicles.

F25 from 03/2011
F01, F02, F03, F04, F07 from 09/2011
F10, F11, F12, F13, F18 from 03/2012

On the above-mentioned vehicles which were produced before the relevant date, the wiring harness must, if necessary, be reconnected from the previous 8-pin connector to a new 10-pin connector (BMW Parts Department 9 132 577) with special tool 61 0 313 .

Pin assignment:

Eight-pin connector: current pin	Ten-pin connector: new pin

Replacement:

Carry out VEHICLE PROGRAMMING/ENCODING .
