Wing mirror camera system and video switch
The system with camera in the passenger wing mirror serves to comply with MLIT Announcement 619/2002 (Safety Regulations for Road Vehicles) in the X5. According to this legislation, the driver must have the possibility to partially see a test object with 0.3 m diameter and 1 m height that is moved along the front and passenger's side directly at the vehicle.
The camera in the door mirror shows the view downwards from the bottom of the mirror on the CID. The field of view of the camera covers at least the area between the front wheel and the center of the vehicle. The image then shows at least 30 cm as of the outer side of the vehicle. This function is displayed with priority over all other displays that are possible when the vehicle is stationary (e.g. television, onboard computer, navigation).
The video switch is deployed between the head unit (CCC) and CID. The video switch switches between the video sources head unit and wing mirror camera. The display of the wing mirror camera can be activated using a button. With certain events, the camera display is switched off and the image is displayed again in the head unit. Displays of the head unit with higher priority are transferred to the CID despite the fact that the wing mirror camera is active. An example would be pressing the SOS button.
