System functions: Electrochromatic
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2013 BMW X5, 2012 BMW X5, and 2011 BMW X5. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
The electrochromatic inside mirror automatically dims the mirror glass if a source of light from the rear is detected. The electrochromatic inside mirror has two sensors that measure incident light from the front and the rear. When the light source from the rear is strength, a voltage signal is output. The strength of the voltage signal depends on the light difference between the front and rear. The greater the voltage signal, the more the mirror glass is dimmed. The electrochromatic inside mirror controls the electrochromatic outside mirrors via the roof function center.
