Customer-initiated software update (KISA)

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2013 BMW X5, 2012 BMW X5, and 2011 BMW X5. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

With the installation of the Combox, for the first time, the customer will be able to update the software of a specific system component (operation via menu in the central information display). To do this, the necessary software must be downloaded from BMW and stored on a USB stick. For this, a USB stick with sufficient storage capacity must be used. The software is then transferred from the USB stick to the Combox via the USB audio interface (SA6FL) in the center console and automatically installed.

NOTE: Not all USB sticks are compatible with the vehicle. Use only BMW approved USB sticks.

For vehicles with TeleServices as from production date 03/2011 (pay attention to corresponding optional equipment!), a software update is also possible via the online service "TeleServices Update". By doing this, the software is transferred and installed via the Teleservice. The use of a USB stick is not necessary.

NOTE: This function is available only for vehicles as from production date 03/2011.
