BMW Teleservice Update

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2013 BMW X5, 2012 BMW X5, and 2011 BMW X5. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The following graphic shows the update procedure using a USB stick and the menu guidance in car information display.

With the installation of the telematics control unit, the customer will be able to update the software of a system component (operation via menu in the central information display). To do this, the necessary software must be downloaded from BMW and stored on a USB stick. Any conventional USB stick with sufficient storage capacity can be used. The software is then transferred from the USB stick to the telematics control unit via the USB audio interface (SA6FL) in the vehicle and updated.

From 03/2011 this service was enhanced so that the data transfer of the software update for ConnectedDrive customers is possible via remote access. This means that software updates are loaded upon customer request via a mobile radio or mobile Internet to the vehicle without having to use other auxiliary materials such as a USB stick for example. A prerequisite for this, however, is an active BMW ConnectedDrive contract.
