51 71 215 Replacing sealing on left or right rear door

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2013 BMW X5, 2012 BMW X5, and 2011 BMW X5. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Necessary preliminary tasks:

NOTE: Use adhesive positioning aids to position the sealing at three points on the rear door.
Positioning aids are included with new seals.

Position of seal (3) on rear door:

Area (A) at distance (G) from door rebate.

Area (B) at line (A) to positioning aids (2) to be stuck on. Positioning aid (2) must be bonded flush with the door outer skin (4).

Area (C) at distance (E) to door inner panel.

Area (D) at distance (F) to door fold.

Clean bonding surfaces on paint with adhesive remover (sourcing reference: BMW Parts Service).

E = 4, 0 mm

F = 4, 0 mm

G = 1.5 mm

IMPORTANT:
  • Do not grip bonding surface.
  • It is not the time pressure is applied, but rather the level of pressure (approx. 10... 15 N/cm2 ) that is decisive.
  • Separation of seal after pressing destroys the adhesive layer.
NOTE: After being pressed on gently, seal can be pulled off again up to 3 times. Do not dirty bonding surface.

Clean bonding surfaces on paint with adhesive remover (sourcing reference: BMW Parts Service).

Suspend seal (1) with open lip pointing inwards over door.

IMPORTANT: Contact point of seal must be situated on underside of door after gluing.

Glue seal as follows:
