18 31 140 Removing and installing mixer for exhaust system (M57T2, N57 with SCR)

Special tools required: 

WARNING: Risk of burning!
Only perform this repair work after engine has cooled down.
IMPORTANT: Ensure adequate ventilation in the workbay!
Avoid skin contact (wear gloves)!
Avoid eye contact (safety goggles)!
Urea/water mixture can escape when components carrying urea/water mixture are released. Have a collecting vessel ready.
Observe country-specific waste disposal regulations.
IMPORTANT: Maintain conditions of absolute cleanliness.
Connections and covers of lines carrying urea/water mixture must be cleaned thoroughly with water after each removal or before each installation!
Thoroughly clean the working area with water after repair work.
Use fluff-free cloths for cleaning.
Seal off connections and lines with special tool 16 1 130!
Thoroughly clean special tool with water after each use.

Necessary preliminary work: 

Remove mixer (1) from front pipe.

Replace gasket behind.

IMPORTANT: The mixer can be installed the wrong way round. The marked arrow must point in the exhaust gas direction of flow.

Installation note: 

Check exhaust system for leak tightness.

After completing repair work:

Use the BMW Diagnosis System to perform the SCR adjustment.
