Checking cylinder head for watertightness
Preliminary work
- Refer to DISASSEMBLING AND ASSEMBLING CYLINDER HEAD .
- Position special tool 0 496 828 (11 6 221)
on cylinder head.
- Slide special tools 0 496 829 (11 6 222) onto the already-used cylinder head bolts (1).
- Screw special tool 0 496 829 (11 6 222)
through the bore holes of the cylinder head bolts (1) with special tool 0 496 828 (11 6 221)

- Tighten screws in the order (1) to (14) step-by-step.TIGHTENING TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS
Special tool to cylinder head M11x175 Tightening torque 15 Nm - Loosen spring band clamp on the coolant hose (1).
- Pull off coolant hose (1).
- Remove connection of the coolant hose (1) on the cylinder head.
- Install special tool 0 496 410 (11 8 082) into cylinder head.
- Tighten special tool 0 496 410 (11 8 082)
.TIGHTENING TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS
Coolant connection to cylinder head Connection M7 Tightening torque 0.8 Nm - Connect tire pressure gage to special tool 0 496 410 (11 8 082).
- Place cylinder head in a water bath and apply pressure.TECHNICAL DATA SPECIFICATION
Check for cylinder head watertightness Testing pressure max. 3.0 bar - If necessary, heat up cylinder head with hot water and repeat test.TECHNICAL DATA SPECIFICATION
Check for cylinder head watertightness Temperature of the cylinder head 60°C - Remove special tool 0 496 410 (11 8 082) .
- Install and tighten connection of the coolant hose (1) on the cylinder head.TIGHTENING TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS
Coolant connection to cylinder head Connection M7 Tightening torque 0.8 Nm - Connect coolant hose (1).
- Secure the coolant hose with the spring band clamp (1).
- Loosen all screws (1) and remove the special tools 0 496 829 (11 6 222).
- Take cylinder head from special tool 0 496 828 (11 6 221).
