Removing and installing the charge air cooler (S55 engine)

Attention! 

Make sure without fail that coolant hoses are correctly routed. Risk of damage due to sharp edges or chafing.

Follow notes for CARRYING OUT REPAIR WORK ON THE COOLING SYSTEM .

Necessary preliminary work: 

• Remove charge-air ducts. Refer to REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING THE CHARGE AIR DUCT FOR CYLINDERS 1-3 and REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING CHARGE AIR DUCT OF CYLINDER 4-6 .
• Drain COOLANT FOR LOW-TEMPERATURE COOLANT CIRCUIT .

Removal: 

Unfasten hose clamp (2).

Unlock and disconnect the plug connection (1).

Unlock and disconnect the coolant hoses (2) from the charge air cooler (1).

Detach the coolant hose from the clamp (3).

Detach coolant hose (4) from charge air cooler (1).

Pull the charge air cooler (1) upward out of the rubber mounts and remove.

Installation: 

Feed the charge air cooler (1) into the rubber mounts and latch.

Connect the coolant hoses (2).

The coolant hoses (2) must audibly snap into place.

Secure the coolant hose in the clamp (3).

Attach coolant hose (4) on charge air cooler (1).

Tighten hose clamp (2).

Tightening torque 17 10 9AZ .

Connect and lock the connector (1).

Connector (1) must engage audibly.

Required reworking: 

• Install the charge air ducts. Refer to REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING THE CHARGE AIR DUCT FOR CYLINDERS 1-3 and REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING CHARGE AIR DUCT OF CYLINDER 4-6 .
• Top up COOLANT FOR LOW-TEMPERATURE COOLANT CIRCUIT .
