Replacing The Bonnet

WARNING: Working on 12 V electrical system .
Risk of short circuits! Risk of fire!

Make sure that there is no charger connected to the jump start terminal in the engine compartment.
Detach battery ground lead from battery.
For auxiliary batteries: Detach battery minus cables from all auxiliary batteries.

Preliminary work

Refer to DISCONNECTING ALL BATTERY GROUND LEADS
Refer to REMOVING THE JET CHAIN PARTIALLY .
Refer to REMOVE HOOD .

Precondition

New part is painted.

NOTE: RISK OF DAMAGE
Mechanical effects .
Paint damage .

Mask those working areas at risk with yellow plastic adhesive tape.
Remove and install heavy or bulky components with the aid of another person/other persons.

Renew the bonnet.
Parts: Engine compartment lid

NOTE: The operations shown only for one side must be carried out on both sides.
Position the bonnet on the bonnet hinge. In so doing, observe the existing impressions of nuts (1) and (2).
Support the bonnet.

Tighten nuts (1) and (2).

TIGHTENING TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS

Bonnet
Nut M8
	Tightening torque	19 Nm

NOTE: Perform the steps on the right and left side.

Loosen screws (1).
Remove striker (2) and install on the new bonnet.

Tighten the screws (1).

TIGHTENING TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS

Striker console to bonnet
Screw
	Tightening torque 8 Nm

Release all clips (arrows) with the special tool 2 298 505 .
Remove damping material (1) and install on the new bonnet.
Fit all clips,

Remove seal plugs (1) and (2) and install on the new bonnet.

Remove clip (1) and install on the new bonnet.
Check the clips (1) for damage and renew if necessary.

Renew the sign (1).
Part: Label
Stick the sign (1) onto the new bonnet.
