Removing airbag unit of the steering wheel/sports steering wheel

- Before performing any work on the airbag, always disconnect the battery ground lead from the battery.
- Airbag unit may only be set down with the cushion (airbag itself) facing upwards.

NOTE:
TECHNICAL INFORMATION
The steering wheel and horn plate must be replaced if the airbag unit has been deployed.
Check all steering wheel attachments (such as switches, cover, shift paddles, wiring harness) for damage and replace if necessary!

Preliminary work
- Refer to DISCONNECTING THE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE OF THE SYSTEM BATTERY .
- Refer to ADJUSTING THE STEERING COLUMN POSITION .

- Before performing any work on the airbag, always disconnect the battery ground lead from the battery.
- Airbag unit may only be set down with the cushion (airbag itself) facing upwards.

- Turn the steering wheel (1) through 180° from the "straight-ahead driving position".
- Insert the slotted screwdriver (1) into the elongated hole on the rear side on the steering wheel.
- Push the slotted screwdriver (1) up and thereby push the retaining spring down (2).
The airbag unit is unlocked.
- Push unlocked airbag unit up.
- At the same time, pull off the top airbag unit in the opposite direction of travel.
- Unlock and disconnect the plug connections (1) and (2).
- Remove airbag unit.
