Removing and installing(replacing) pedestrian protection (optical fibre) (2016-2022)

WARNING: Observe SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS FOR HANDLING GAS GENERATORS .

Incorrect handling can activate pedestrian protection and cause injury.

CAUTION:

AFGS (ACTIVE PEDESTRIAN PROTECTION) PROCEDURE AFTER ACCIDENT .

Necessary preliminary work:

Remove front bumper panel

A damaged upper impact absorber must not be reused.

Unlock plug connection (1) and disconnect.

Remove impact absorber (2).

Installation note:

First attach upper impact absorber (2) at the bottom and then press on at the top.

Remove splash guard lid (1) in direction of arrow from the impact absorber (2).

Installation note:

Make sure that the spray guard lid (1) is fitted correctly on the impact absorber (2).

Remove optical fibre sensor (1) from impact absorber (2).

Check impact absorber (2). A damaged impact absorber (2) must not be reused.

NOTE: Diagram similar.

CAUTION: Before installation of impact absorber (3), check the engagement of latch mechanism of the sensor for pedestrian protection (1) in retaining lugs (2) over the entire length.

Check impact absorber (3) for damage to retaining lugs (4).

Do not fit damaged impact absorbers (3).
