18 31 130 Removing and installing/replacing metering unit (N57 D30 O/T 1 with SCR)

Special tools required:

16 1 130

IMPORTANT: Ensure adequate ventilation in the workbay!
Avoid skin contact (wear gloves)!
Avoid eye contact (safety goggles)!
Urea/water mixture can escape when components carrying urea/water mixture are released. Have a collecting vessel ready.
Observe country-specific waste disposal regulations.

IMPORTANT: Maintain conditions of absolute cleanliness.
Connections and covers of lines carrying urea/water mixture must be cleaned thoroughly with water after each removal or before each installation!
Thoroughly clean the working area with water after repair work.
Use fluff-free cloths for cleaning.
Seal off connections and lines with special tool 16 1 130!
Thoroughly clean special tool with water after each use.

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Remove rear UNDERBODY PROTECTION .
All-wheel drive vehicles only:

Remove STIFFENING PLATE

Disconnect metering line (3) from metering unit (5).

Unfasten coolant hoses (4) from metering unit using UNCRIMPING TOOLS .

Release pipe clips and pull coolant hoses (4) off metering module.

Replace clamps.

Release clamp (1).

Tightening torque 18 31 10AZ .

Release plug connection (2) and pull off.

Remove metering unit.

After completing repair work:

Carry out SCR adjustment using BMW Diagnosis and Information System.
